caring about the environment is patriotic

It's strange how caring for the environment has become a politicized attitude. Somehow, making a case for clean air, clean water, and protecting wildlife has become associated with the Liberal point of view - and so left-wing politicians are the only ones who feel comfortable expressing these values publicly. I don't understand how we can tolerate this state of affairs - preserving the planet is something that *everyone* benefits from, regardless of political party.. It's such short-sighted thinking to say that in order to allow our economy to flourish as much as possible, we couldn't possibly burden our nation's businesses with extra environmental regulations. Bullshit. And moreover, moving towards alternate energy sources (rather than oil) will help us disentangle ourselves from the Middle East quagmire that we're in. Here are some links:
