Amy and I went to Western Mass for the weekend for the wedding of our good friends Ben and Lauren. Amy recently donated her Subaru to NPR, since the clutch was in need of replacement and that was probably just the tip of an iceberg of needed repairs.
In the meantime, we are using Zipcar. For this past weekend I decided to spend an extra $10/day and rent the nearby Mini Cooper, just for fun. The car was great to drive. Very responsive, and reasonably powerful when I needed to accelerate.
The problem is the user interface (UI). My first hint that something was amiss was when it took me 10 minutes to figure out how to turn up the volume of the radio as I drove out to Bedford to pick up Amy. It turned out that the knob in the middle of the radio-console area is *not* the volume knob for the radio. That one seems to be for changing channels, and to adjust the volume you have to find a lower knob down near the heating and A/C controls.
